| Progressives struggle for momentum after spate of losses Posted: 06 May 2022 03:34 AM PDT The Hill reports: Progressives are facing a critical test of influence in Joe Biden's Washington after another electoral blow further marked the party as moderate. An Ohio congressional primary this week sent a centrist newcomer soaring back to Capitol Hill, leaving the left defeated again in one of its highest-profile contests. What followed was finger pointing and venting by activists who say they are tired of being stampeded by the establishment. "Party leadership is firmly in the hands of the corporate Democrats," said Marianne Williamson, a spiritual author and presidential candidate in 2020. "They're vicious in their determination to keep progressives on the sidelines and out of power." The Cleveland contest between incumbent Rep. Shontel Brown (D-Ohio) and former state Sen. Nina Turner was one of progressives' best chances to notch a win before the fall and build the momentum they acknowledge they need. The establishment tells you the GOP is divided. Check out the Democratic party. |

| Biden likely to avoid IRS audit that could’ve revealed if he made money from Hunter’s deals Posted: 06 May 2022 03:27 AM PDT The New York Post reports: President Biden is likely to avoid an audit that could reveal whether he made money from his son Hunter Biden's overseas business dealings — because the Internal Revenue Service has rejected a whistleblower complaint that alleged he owes at least $127,000 in taxes, The Post has learned. The IRS allows people to inform on fellow taxpayers and win a slice of the proceeds — prompting Chris Jacobs, a former Republican staffer on Capitol Hill, to submit complaints against Biden and his accountant, though he said he didn't want any financial reward. Jacobs shared with The Post a reply from the IRS titled "denial" that explained that the government didn't use his information. Tax law expert Bob Willens, who teaches at Columbia University's business school, said the rejection means Biden is likely to run out a three-year statute of limitations, meaning Republican claims that Biden owes up to $500,000 in taxes. It can be very nice to be a prominent Democrat in Washington D.C. |
